Logo Design: Some Brilliant Ideas for Your Brand

Logo Design: Some Brilliant Ideas for Your Brand

Choosing the right font can be the hardest part of logo design, especially for a text-based logo.

A logo is a visual representation of your entire business. A great logo will speak to your industry, your values, and your business, immediately reminding the customer of your brand and their emotional connection to it. Coming up with the perfect logo isn’t easy, which is why some graphic designers focus their whole business on just that one type of design. If you’re looking for help getting started with designing your new logo, look no further. These brilliant ideas are a great place to start!

Iconography

Iconography uses visual symbols in art, and it is a considerable part of logo design. You should choose graphic symbols that represent your industry or your business in some way. If you’re an artist, you might consider using a symbol representing your media and clarifying what your product is: a paintbrush for a painter or a camera or film roll for a photographer. For a small business that doesn’t have a product that easily becomes a symbol, you could create a symbol of your base materials or tools. For example, consider emblems such as scissors for a beautician or a basic representation of a compounding pharmacy’s molecule. Likewise, a team’s logo could center on the sports equipment you use, such as a ball, puck, or skate, or feature the mascot animal.

Typography

Choosing the right font can be the hardest part of logo design, especially for a text-based logo. You want a font that captures your brand’s spirit and fits within the standards of your industry. Certain fonts have their own reputation (comic sans is a prime example) that you will want to steer clear of. A logo for an artist or sports business can get away with more flashy, fun fonts, while a small finance business would be expected to have a more traditional font. Whatever you choose, make sure that the font is legible, especially if it needs to be read at a distance (on a uniform, for instance).

Color

When choosing colors for a logo, stick to complementary, triadic, tetradic, or analogous combinations. Complementary colors are opposite on the color wheel (like blue and orange), triadic colors form a pyramid on the color wheel (like yellow, blue, and red), and tetradic colors form a rectangle (two complementary pairs that are side-by-side). On the other hand, analogous colors are colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel, such as yellow, orange, and red.
