About Us

TIME PRINTERS, INC. is a full-service, community-based commercial print provider occupying a 15,000 sq. ft. building in West Baltimore. Services and products include digital print, pre-press, post-press, and quick-turnaround funeral programs, booklets, brochures, cards, etc. Over time, the firm has developed a strong client base, including fraternal organizations, religious groups, businesses, multi-generation families, non-profits, and institutions of learning.

Through the years, Time Printers has received numerous accolades and awards for printing excellence and community involvement. It has a reputation for specialization and serves clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The company employs people from its business neighborhood, and the owners are especially proud of the fact that they have been able to hire several young people for summer employment. Space in the building is also rented to Free State Regional Service Center of N.A., which serves Narcotics Anonymous groups throughout the Eastern Seaboard.

The Maddox family has been a part of the printing industry in Baltimore since 1907 when Gabriel B. Maddox Sr. (grandfather of the current owners of Time Printers) founded the Maddox Printing Company. As a young man, growing up in Georgia, Gabriel was mentored by Booker T. Washington, who encouraged him to attend Hampton Institute where he studied printing instruction. After graduation, Gabriel founded the then-new Tuskegee Institute’s first printing shop.

Mr. Maddox later migrated to Baltimore and established his business in the 700 block of Druid Hill Avenue where he remained until his death in 1945. His sons Gabriel Jr. (Gabe), Francis (Frank) and J. Albert (Al) continued to operate the company until 1954 when Time Printers was founded by Frank and Al (Gabe continued to run the Maddox Printing Company until his death in 2005).

Over time, due to the diligent work of the two brothers, Time Printers grew as a successful community business, and after many years, Frank retired in 1980. In 2001, Al transferred ownership of the company to his children, four of whom continue to operate it today (Brenda, Wayne, Greg and Lisa). Brothers Al Jr. and Dan retired from the business in 2021; and sadly, brother Brian died in 1996.

This third generation of printers was introduced to the working world by “helping out” around the print shop after school and on Saturdays watching their father and uncle run the business. Years later, they each came into the family firm on a full-time basis, bringing their individual skill sets to enhance and propel the operation forward as technology brought about monumental changes in the industry. Today, a fourth generation works in the business (Mona and Randy) and the family looks toward the future with excitement, optimism and gratitude while continuing to serve the community from which they came.
